Wines of Toscana

Founded in the early 2000s and known as “SATOR”, the company, that today bears my name "GIANNI MOSCARDINI", it is one of the emerging winemaking realities that has developed in recent years in the lesser known areas of the Northern Maremma. The project focuses on the desire to exploit, on the land belonging to my family, the professional skills that, on a daily basis, I give to other companies as a wine consultant. From the beginning of my activity, I have always sought to develop realities that reflect the nature of their territory while respecting the wishes of the entrepreneur. Today, what I have done and am still doing for those who believe in me I also find it in my company, and I considered it normal that the two paths began to travel parallel.

Azienda Agricola Giovanni Chiappini

The agricultural enterprise Chiappini is in the heart of the DOC Bolgheri at Via Bolgherese, the road where the most important wine estates of the Bolgheri region are located. The story of this farm tells us about the consistently renewed family tradition of the head of the family, Giovanni Chiappini, son of farmers that had moved from Marche to the Bolgheri region in the fifties. This tradition was inherited by the two daughters Martina and Lisa who assist their father in the estate. The particular difference in the work and the growth of the Chiappini family is found in their special connection to the land , interpreted as mother earth and cultivated in a symbiosis with the working power. An alliance at all times vital and never detrimental. Learn more here.

Podere Sapaio

The Etruscan Coast, a sketch of land with a unique light, and in which there is always something new and fascinating to observe. It is here that Sapaio lives, where it has found its own balance. A vision of intimacy in a rugged and wild land. Located between the municipalities of Castagneto Carducci and Bibbona, a scene shaped by dunes and Mediterranean scrub, where life is slow. Thick pine forests are merged between the sea and avenues of cypress trees, cultivated fields and rows of vines. The ancient guarded villages are intimate; The voices of those who animate them are joyful. Sapaio stretches out over 40 hectares of land, of which 27 are vineyards. Of the latter, 18 hectares fall in Bolgheri, and the remaining 9 in Bibbona which, with its slightly higher altitude, has a breezier microclimate. The vineyards are exclusively suited to the yielding of Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Petit Verdot vines.

Since Etruscan times, Montepulciano has been at the centre of the wine trade in Tuscany. With quotations reaching back in time from Tito Livio to Poliziano, from Voltaire to Alexandre Dumas right up to Thomas Jefferson, the enological culture of the Vino Nobile di Montepulciano has carved out a unique journey for itself. A history and a uniqueness which were sealed by the creation of the DOC in 1960 and the DOCG Vino Nobile di Montepulciano in 1980.
In fact, it was in the 80s that the estate’s story started to enfold thanks to the passion of its founder, Rudi Bindella, grandson of the pioneer Jean Bindella who at the beginning of the 1900s with only two horses started transporting flagons of wine and then introduced the famous Tuscan flask of wine to Switzerland. Rudi Bindella, explored and developed the family activity by starting to instruct those around him, importing and distributing excellent Italian products in the Swiss market, opening restaurants in the most important Swiss areas. During his studies in Italy, he discovers Montepulciano where he decides to become a winemaker and set up his own estate. The Vallocaia Estate represents a unicum of this prestigious winemaking area: it is the Nobile of today but most of all, the Nobile of what will be.
From its two large glass windows, the lovely landscapes and the noble profile of Montepulciano dominate. The blood-red sunsets and the crests, that follow on from one another create a picturesque succession worthy of the brush of a Renaissance artist.
The Tenuta Vallocaia has a special character. Today, it is a modern winery with an ancient heart, encapsulated in an architecture which exalts its functions and its beauty. It is permeated with light which amplifies its considerable, exposed, internal spaces. A place where wine, art, history, passion and people live in a dynamic equilibrium, dedicated to creating wines that are the best way to tell the tales of this land in the heart of Italy.
At the Tenuta Vallocaia, one breathes the Energy of the Future, one experiments, one speaks with the land to understand its character and transfer it to its wines in order to project it towards a modern, sophisticated and more elegant style.

Caiarossa

The road which leads to Cairossa is immersed in wild Mediterranean brush land with opens up only occasionally with a panoramic view which shows sweetly rolling hillsides dotted with century-old olive groves, a few country farmhouses and, deep on the horizon, the Tyrrhenian Sea, gleaming in a silvery light. The cellars, red like the center of the earth, perched on the southern slopes of the hill, loom up unexpectedly before one’s very eyes.

Night is dark at Caiarossa, black in an obscurity which allows us to discover stars whose existence was unknown to us, while the day, the shimmering of sunlight off the distant sea, offers an almost magical light.

It is never excessively hot thanks to an altitude which allows the sea breezes to blow, cooling plants and animals and permeating the air with sensations of salt. But is never too cool, either, because to our backs the woods and the hills offer a paternal protection from cold and gusting  north winds.

The Val di Cecina (the Cecina river valley), the town of Riparbella to be precise, is the place where Cairossa is cradled: it rises up on a hill halfway between the ancient city of Volterra and Pisa. Learn more here.

Founded in 1984, Castello Romitorio has been committed to the study, exploration and promotion of Brunello di Montalcino DOCG. This has been possible thanks to the work of the Italian artist Sandro Chia, and his bond with Franco Martini, the first cellar master of Castello Romitorio, whose family has been producing Brunello di Montalcino for generations. Sandro Chia planted Romitorio’s first vineyards from 1984 to 1993 using ancient sangiovese varietals local to Montalcino. Today these old vines compose about 50% of Romitorio’s vineyards and serve as an immense heritage of Biodiversity. This bond now continues between Sandro’s son, Filippo Chia, and Franco’s son, Stefano Martini.

In 2006 Filippo Chia set upon the journey of building a new cellar and planting new vineyards at Castello Romitorio following in the footsteps of his father Sandro. He began by conducting careful research on the old vines and from there he decided which might be the most suitable Sangiovese varietals to plant in the new plots. With the assistance of a highly qualified team, a new web of beautiful vineyards slowly took shape. Today these vineyards span from the top of the Romitorio hill starting at altitudes of 450 meters down to 200 meters. Each plot has been carefully contemplated with a unique patchwork of different clones of sangiovese. Filippo’s goal was to initiate a process of renewal and a renaissance across all aspects of winemaking starting from the vineyards and therefore necessarily from the soil. A transition to organic farming officially began in March 2020 and vineyards will be certified by March 2023.

Cecilia

The Cecilia Winery was established in 1990 thanks to the efforts of Giuseppe Camerini, Milanese engineer, industrialist, and artist. After visiting the Island for almost fifty years, he decided to develop his passion for viticulture and wine in the farmstead “Podere La Casina”.

Nearly 20 years later, the farm is managed by his nephews Lorenzo and Renato. The vineyards now comprise three small farmsteads in the area surrounding Procchio and Marina di Campo. They cover approximately 10 hectares and produce roughly 60,000 bottles a year.

Welcoming the visitors in the direct sale shop and promoting the Elba Island through quality products coming directly from its beautiful territory is the core of the company values and philosophy. Learn more here.

Fattoria Poggerino

The “Fattoria Poggerino” is a small, organic family run winery located in the heart of Tuscany’s Chianti Classico production zone. It consists of 106 acres (43 hectares) of vineyards, olive groves and woods, with a few old traditional stone houses and a 12th century church.

The winery is one of the properties of a large estate which used to belong to Prince Ginori Conti, a descendant of one of Florence’s oldest families. Floriana Ginori Conti inherited the winery from her father in the 1970s, and began in 1980 together with her husbant Fabrizio Lanza, to produce a Chianti Classico with the “Poggerino” label.

In 1999 she handed over the property to her two children, Piero and Benedetta Lanza, who had been managing it since 1988. Besides its activity as a winery, Poggerino also provides accommodation. The property includes several typical old stone farmhouses, the famous Chianti “casa colonica” whose architectural beauty and harmony within the landscape are unique in the world. A vacation at Poggerino is an occasion for total relaxation by those who wish to escape the city, breathe in the romantic atmosphere of the Chianti hills and wake up to the song of birds . “I Tirreni” is one of the names that the Greeks gave to the people leaving by the Coast: the Etruscans.

The Etruscans were capable sailors, pirates, but also expert wine producers and merchants. Their boats cut through the sea with flags showing dolphins. The company logo comes from a greek mith about the Tirrenian people. The mith tells the story of the semi-God Bacchus who was hosted by an Etruscan boat during his sailing of the Mediterranean sea. Bacchus was then made prisoner by the Tirrenians and tied to the main mast of the boat as they wanted to take advantage of the wine production and trade. Suddenly, it started blowing strong winds against the boat, the boat’s wheel were turned into grapevine sprouts and the ropes were turned into snakes. Being terrified by the storm, the sailors jumped into the sea and they were turned into dolphins by Bacchus to save them.

Querceto di Castellina

Our approach to winemaking is quite simple. Let the natural flavors of our beautiful grapes and terroir lead the way to creating elegant wines with a sense of place.

Each of the wines are crafted solely from estate grown fruit - from our everyday drinking L'aura Chianti Classico to the Podalirio Merlot with a true Tuscan sensibility, and our Sei Gran Selezione, well-deserving of its strict classification, to the one-of-a-kind Livia Bianco and favorite summer-sipping Furtivo rosé. Pietranera

Agricola Centolani is a world-famous wine estate located in the heart of Montalcino, one of the most evocative villages in legendary Tuscany. Brunello di Montalcino, one of the world’s top wines, grows here in the Siena area, amid Valle d’Arbia’s stark landscape and Valle d’Orcia’s wild, sunny stretches. The Peluso Centolani family owns the homonymous company and possesses two major wine estates in Montalcino: Tenuta Friggiali, with cellars and offices, and Tenuta Pietranera, whose vineyards, olive groves, arable land and woods cover approximately 200 hectares. Learn more here.

Pietro Beconcini Agricola

Innovation from the past: There are two fundamental rules in my work, consistency with past decisions, and humility in the process of a continuing desire to learn. These values often contradict each other: the increase in knowledge impels me to make changes that faithfulness to the direction already taken would prevent. Learn more here.

Siro Pacenti

The Pacenti estate was established in 1970, with the purchase of the property north of Montalcino (Pelagrilli) by Siro, who then proceeded to plant some important vineyards, which are still there today, in the fresh, clay soils of the land overlooking Siena. In 1988, management passed into the hands of Giancarlo. This was the year of the harvest in which Rosso and Brunello di Montalcino Siro Pacenti were bottled for the first time.At the beginning of the Nineties, the estate expanded to include land south of Montalcino (Piancornello).

Here, in soils rich in minerals, at the end of the Sixties Giancarlo’s maternal grandfather had planted five hectares of vineyard which were to prove particularly important in determining the characteristics of Siro Pacenti wines. This is now where the Sangiovese rootings used in the estate’s new plantations are reproduced. The Nineties were also marked by the start of the partnership with the University of Bordeaux and the first experiments on phenolic maturity applied to Sangiovese (Yves Glories). Learn more here.

Tenuta di Valgiano

Valgiano’s wine is worth the trip because the place is beautiful but different from traditional Tuscany with its hills, vineyards, olive groves and farmhouses. We are in the area called Lucchesia, reign of villas, and villas always cache a mystery. Valgiano hosts a refuge for bats. But if you want to know where it is, you have to discover it. And if you go there in the summer, no need to worry, there are no mosquitoes! Learn more here.

Tenuta di Ghizzano

The Venerosi Pesciolini Family are a very old family dating back to the Carolingian period. The first signs of the Venerosi in the historical record are from 803 A.D. It is believed that our family settled in Ghizzano towards the end of the 14th century. The family’s country house is now a residential Villa and the heart of the company. The Villa has a beautiful, typical classic late renaissance style Italian garden.

The "Tenuta di Ghizzano" (Ghizzano Estate) is one of the oldest farms in the area but also one of the most innovative. It is made up of 280 hectares of rolling hills, in one of the most stunning landscapes in the world, farmed completely ORGANICALLY and using BIODYNAMIC methods, with 18 hectares of vineyards, 15 of olives, 100 hectares of arable land and the remaining 150 of woodland and poplar groves where truffle hunters search for their perfumed golden treasures secretively. (View PDF Map)

Ghizzano is a small mediaeval hilltop village, situated at about 200m above sea level in an area referred to as “Terre Di Pisa” (The Pisan Countryside). The landscape is gentle, and the climate is mild, thanks to the sea breeze, without extreme temperatures or great risk of springtime frosts.

The soil is a very interesting composite of sand and clay, a good example of calcareous clay sands formed from marine sediments from the "Astiana" geological era, in which you can therefore find fossilized shells.

Donna Olimpia 1898

The estate bears the name “Donna Olimpia 1898”. In 1898, Gherardo della Gherardesca gave the name of his wife, Olimpia Alliata, Lady of Biserno, to the estate to celebrate their 25th wedding anniversary. The estate covers an area of about 60 hectares and is located in the DOC Bolgheri. It stretches over a land strip that runs from Km 167.8 of the Aurelia road inward for about 1.2 km. The morphology of the terrain is flat and is made out of 40 hectares of vineyards and some arable land.

Donna Olimpia 1898 was an idea of Guido Folonari, heir to one of the most historical Italian wine families, who decided to develop, in 2001 an ambitious wine project. “When I decided to start this adventure alone, I really decided to get up and go. What was I looking for? I did not even know myself. I was looking for a place that would thrill me. I was lucky enough to find three”. So, in a short time, he found three wineries in the most prestigious production areas between Piedmont and Tuscany, which emerged in the Italian wine scenario and were immediately recognized as “the three Killer B’s” by Guido Folonari.

Fattoria Montecchio

The story of the Fattoria Montecchio is intrinsically linked to that of the Nuti family. Back in 1973, Ivo Nuti, who was originally from Cerreto Guidi – a stone’s throw from the birthplace of Leonardo da Vinci – and had become one of the biggest leather entrepreneurs in Santa Croce sull’Arno in the 1950s and 1960s, decided to buy the estate that had belonged to the Marchesi Torrigiani in the 1700s and restore it to its old splendor.

Some places are blessed with good fortune. In the case of Fattoria Montecchio, we must have been blessed by Bacchus, god of wine.

  • Chianti Classico

  • Chianti Classico Riserva

Situated on the route that leads from Montalcino to Sant’Antimo Abbey, the farm and agritourism Ventolaio reveals to all who reach this place the beauty of its land. The old and typical farmhouse is today the house of Family Fanti: Luigi, Maria Assunta, Baldassarre and Manuele. Our philosophy is based on the purity of the product. I have inherited the farm after 4 generations of farmers, together with the property I have first of all inherited the love for my land and for its fruits. Be a farmer today and educate my sons to be means not only work hard and with satisfaction our land during all the period of the year but also pass down to my sons the values and the love for the country life and keep alive and enrich that property that my parents, my grandparents and the generations before struggled to build it.
I love working and taking care of the vineyards during the year, select the best grapes, pay attention and take care of every smallest thing that the land needs.
That is the reason for I produce a natural wine, pure, that accents the peculiar feature, quality and perfumes of each year.
My Brunello has to be first of all genuine and pure because I’m the first one to drink it, it ha to be traditional, the window every year of the hard work that I have done and of the natural development of the season
